Some from things learned at MUG meetings, some sent
in and some just gleened from the net.

You may have discovered that
iTunes can export a Song List. Under
ADVANCED. This list imports into Appleworks Spreadsheet smoothly and
allows full search (EDIT -> CHANGE) and sort. Very nice.
Also note that clicking the select button on your iPod TWICE after
a
song is playing will allow fast search to any place in the song. Not
a real scrub as it does not implement until you stop searching. Very
useful if you have any long songs or audio books.

How to transfer text in SimpleText
or TextEdit into AppleWorks
(from a recent MadMUG meeting)
Sometimes you get writing, sometimes something as long as a novel,
in SimpleText and then you find you want or need to do more to it.
Usually becasue you have reached the size limit that SimpleText allows,
32kb (http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn/tn1005.html). What do
you do then.
Well you will need to have a text editing program like AppleWorks.
Actually AppleWorks is so much more than a text editing program, but
that is another story all together.
The quick way is to open AppleWorks. At the 'starting point' toolbar
or from the 'File' menu choose 'Word Processing'. This will open up
a new blank document.
Under the 'File' menu scroll down to 'Insert', on the upclick a search
window will open. At the bottom of this window there is a selection
for 'File Format' by default it usually says AppleWorks. Single click
this option and you will be faced with a plethora of file format choices.
To make it easy choose 'All Available'. This will make any file viewable
in AW viewable in the search window.
Now go find your file.(knowing where your file is located)
Once found single click the file in the search window, this will highlite
the file. Then you can hit the 'Insert' button at the bottom of the
window, and voila your text from your SimpleText document is now happily
located in a new AppleWorks document.
Save your new document. Name it something you will remember and place
it where you will be able to easily find it again.
Have fun manipulating it in AppleWorks.
The same thing can be done with MSWord. The only difference is that
in word, 'Insert' is a menu item all its own. So go to the 'Insert'
menu and scroll down to 'File...', from there a search window opens
(it may look slightly different but does the same thing) and you again
find the file and click Insert. |
Come join us for our next meeting. Everyone
is welcome. All levels of users are encouraged to come, ask questions,
answer questions, meet other Mac users and see what they are doing and
maybe how they do it.
